Why I haven’t had a glass of red wine in almost a month!

Most of my cellar is red wine, but most of what I DRINK is WHITE wine- always at room temperature. In fact, I haven’t had the urge to pop a bottle of red wine for almost a month. Yes, I’ve tasted (and spat) Caymus Cab, Le Veiux Telegraphe CdP, and countless Pomerols (what’s the big deal?); that was for work, and those wines basically only brought me flavors of berries, herbs, and dirt. Yes they are really expensive and ultra-exclusive berries and dirt, but they are still different versions of the same thing. That is not something that could be said of the white wines I’ve bought for myself this week!

What I have tasted has tasted like this:

White pepper, lime zest, and peanuts - Kremser Weinzierl Gruner Veltliner 2008!

Apple cider, nutmeg, pineapple - Villa Carafa Falanghina from Campania 2005!

White flowers, grapfruit, and yellow peaches - Barnard Griffin Riesling 2008!

Green apples, gooseberries, and freshly cut lemons and grass - Chateau Les Maines Bordeaux Blanc 2008!

The better part is that while the reds I was poured ranged from $50 to $150 dollars, the whites I bought ranged from $12 to $9 per bottle!
